I know this might seem like an odd post, but yesterday, I went to Homegroup and asked some of the guys some electricty questions. Being a “humanities” person all of my life (which essentially means I never paid attention in science classes, nor tried to), I don’t know much about anything science. But now, I am my kids’ science teacher in homeschooling (go figure). Well anway, for school I have been contructing a circuit board and teaching the kids about electricity. So I am running a circuit with a closed switch and a motor that has a plastic, detached fan on top. When the switch is closed the fan spins. When it is open, the fan pops into the air, still cycling and I have no idea why. So the guys told me that the electric current creates a magnetic field and then I asked the question, “What is a magnetic field?” I don’t think I receieved an answer I fully understood.

So I looked it up on howstuffworks.com, and boy they have info on everything. And so, here is the answer.

One other thing is that Kevin did this same experiment last night. Now I know why it worked…
