Hymns for Now

Who says hymns are dull?  Red Mountain Music is a church that has reworked old hymns for current day sound.  They lean a bit more on the country side, but definitely worth listening to for arrangements, or simply just to sit tehre with Bible in hand and just meditate and enjoy thinking and basking in God’s glory!

  1. I’ll have to go listen to them soon but I know what you mean. The worship team at Kaleo reworks a lot of old hyms into some very great sounds. Their song are always chosen for the content of the lyrics which makes for some very powerful songs. What you’ll first notice is how they don’t sound like popular music today (which a lot of churches do) but are even more powerful because they are honest on God center (not man center) Here’s a link you can listen to them and judge for yourself. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bezalel

  2. Thanks so much archshrk. It is very difficult to find God-centered songs that sound good. Hymns generally do that and I will definitely take a listen. I tried but seems as though cdbaby is down right now.

Have you had a chance to listen to Sovereign Grace Music. Also, some of the stuff that Passion puts out is really good in terms of worshipping God and his character. Some of the passion stuff, but not all however, is good.

  3. Interesting sound sound, archshrk. It has an analog, indy band feel. I’m assuming this is a live cd? Do you go to this church?

  4. I have been blessed greatly by the first two Indelible Grace CDs, blessed by the third, and puzzled by the the fourth. Have you listened to any of them?

For a completely different sound – more classical – check out the Westminster Brass, which is a mainstay at Ligonier National Conferences.

    I can’t wait to join with 10,000 x 10,000 around the throne!
