It’s good to be home. I love vacations. I love traveling. But I really do love home. I love the feel and smell of my own bed. I love the familiar. I love the comforts of home. But I know that soon I will be itching to leave it again. I will not love home as I did when I walked through those doors at 12 am Pacific Time (3 am Eastern Time – We were delayed on the airplane tarmac with a crying baby boy for 2 hours! We were supposed to land at 8:30 pm PT.). And that is the reality of my soul. It is never fully satisfied here in this world, no matter what new or old experience I have.
Hence, I know that heaven is the only home that I will ever long to be and will never long to be anywhere else when I get there. That is an unfathomable thought really, when I think about how much I love vacations and travel and also, how much I love home concurrently. Imagine being home for eternity and never feeling trapped, stale, tired, dreary, old. Imagine never feeling the malaise of the mundane and normal. Imagine never feeling once the urge to upgrade anything because the desire (not the objects of the desire) is met beyond our greatest expectations. To think of heaven as home is like describing snow to someone from the bush country in Africa. It simply cannot be done without detracting from the reality.
Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:5-7:
Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 6Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7We live by faith, not by sight.
When we are “in the body we are away from our home. As much as I loved New Jersey and being there with my parents, it was truly good to be home. I also know as much as I love my wife, my kids, my church, vacations, the Yankees, it will be great to be home one day.

Welcome back!

Posted by hoon | August 31, 2006, 11:07 amSam, as you probably know Donna and I just returned from Lassen Nat’l Park and are heading to Yellowstone and Glacier. Lassen was drop-dead gorgeous; I’ve been going there for 20 years and the beauty on this trip exceeded all prior visits. Yet I was left thinking – if this is beauty here, what can we expect heaven to be like?!??!
Posted by TimK | August 31, 2006, 4:51 pmTim, I can’t imagine. Wow, you must be seeing some great sights right now. I can’t believe you still have internet access and checking this blog. Maybe you should be doing something guest blogging on location!
Posted by admin | August 31, 2006, 6:34 pmSam, I’m actually at home right now, doing laundry/etc so we can leave again. The place we stayed in Lassen had no net access – in fact there was no electricity except by a generator for the kitchen!
Posted by TimK | August 31, 2006, 6:51 pmIt was great seeing you and Shua. Thanks for the great bday gift. :woohoo: I was so blessed! I am glad you are in the comforts of your own home now. Thanks for dropping by. Miss you all.:cheeky:
