Perhaps one of the funniest lines from the conference was when David Wells said about Mark Driscoll:
“Actually, you know, it was really funny, as I was listening to Mark, because he sounded so far out, so testing the boundaries, so pushing the envelope. Now when I say those very same things, I sound staid…and tame. It’s not right! I want to be hip, man!”
What is even funnier is by David Wells saying, “I want to be hip, man,” merely dates himself to the 60s and makes him…well…not very hip, man!!

On the other hand Prof. Wells’ entirely unexpected, almost out-of-place, (he’s old-school British gentleman-scholar) “I want to be hip, man!” was one of the coolest things I heard at the conference, to which there was a roaring laughter from the audience. And his saying so humbly revealed the universal struggle among speakers and writers to be relevant. It was truly precious. And hip!
