Personal Thoughts

Yesterday

Shua and I watched the movie, Yesterday, last night. It’s about the AIDS pandemic in Sub-Saharan Africa. It’s a bit slow and totally in Zulu so there are subtitles. To someone like me, however, who actually spoke a few words in Zulu (okay, 2 words), it was quite heart-warming. It gives a really great depiction of the horror of sin. A man will leave a village to go work in the mines of Johannesburg. While there, he will have an extra-marital relationship with a woman who has AIDS. Then when he goes back home once a month, after having sex with his wife, she will contract AIDS. Both will die leaving behind an orphan. It’s a horrible cycle of sin. And here is the wife, faithful to her husband, working hard to care for her child, and yet she not only dies, but also leaves behind the child/ren. And this is the deadly tragedy of sin.

This is what is so sadly routine in Africa.
