1. Describe in your own words who Jesus is? What do these words mean to you?
2. Have you ever struggled with doubting Jesus? Explain and share how and why this happens. How does knowing John the Baptist struggled with such doubt encourage you in your walk of faith?
3. Have you ever believed that your acceptance as a child of God was based on your outward spirituality? What did this look like? Did this give you the joy you longed for? Why or why not?
4. Have you ever personally experienced God’s grace through His Word during times of trial? Please share. Why do you think God’s Word should be the first place we should turn when doubting, suffering, or in a time of trial? What keeps us from doing exactly this? What dangers await us when we fail to turn to God’s Word during suffering?
5. How does knowing Jesus is all-powerful provide you comfort? Does knowing He’s all-powerful and sovereign also lead you possibly to discouragement? Please share.
6. In what way are those of us who trust in Christ ‘lesser’ than John? In what ways are we greater?
7. How can knowing our dientity in Christ lead to radical transformation (like the transexual man quote in the message)? Have you experienced such transformation? If not, why do you think you/we have not experienced it? Should all Christians experience transformation? Explain how the Gospel is the key to this trasnformation.
8. Why did the Pharisees reject Jesus? Have you ever experienced the same self-righteosuness that the Pharisees experienced?
9. Look at the list of self-righteous qualities from Stuart Scott. Which three qualities do you most identify with? Please give a specific incident where you have seen this expressed in your life. Pray together over your self-centeredness.
10. Read Matthew 6:24 together. Do you see yourselves trying to serve two masters? What master a re you loving in your life (an idol) that is leading you to despise Christ? Do you think in loving another master, you are truly despising Christ? Please explain.
