Porn and Steve Jobs

Most of you have probably heard about Steve Jobs opposition to porn on anything Apple (ok, I’m an Apple hater, but this is definitely something I admire about Apple).  As always, Al Mohler has a very insightful post about the subject: Steve Jobs is a businessman of unquestioned ability, a technological wizard, and one of [...]

Thank God for the Salvation of Gentiles

We’ve been going through Galatians for our morning BSG, and in particular Galatians 3:1-9 where Paul writes in verse 9: “So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.”  Paul has been making the case against the Judaizers that what justifies a person is God’s grace through faith [...]

The Final Episode of Lost: Our Hearts Are Restless…

I am one of the millions who tuned in to watch the final episode of Lost, the hit ABC TV thriller/drama.  And as most fans of the show already know, it would have been a daunting task to attempt to answer all of the mysteries of six seasons into a two and a half-hour drama.  [...]

10 Characteristics of Hypocrisy from Luke 11:37-12:12

Hypocrites focus on external appearance rather than internal holiness. (11:39-41) Hypocrites have a selective view of obedience to God. (11:42) Hypocrites crave man’s attention and applause. (11:43) Hypocrites are spiritually dead without anyone realizing it, including themselves. (11: 44) Hypocrites impose spiritual burdens on others without grace. (11:45-46) Hypocrites strive to appear righteous. (11:47-51) Hypocrites [...]

I read this about David Platt’s church at Justin Taylor’s blog: Tell us a little bit about “secret church”—how it started, what it is, and how other pastors might implement something similar. “Secret Church” was something we started at Brook Hills based on time I had spent with our brothers and sisters in underground Asian [...]

The Most Oft-Quoted But Least Fact-Checked Statistic Ever?

Do half of all marriages end in divorce as Time Magazine asks?  If so, where is the study that proves this to be the case?  This oft-quoted stat seems to have no basis.  What do you think? Should you marry if you have differing theologies? Yes. Maybe. No.

Read Russell Moore’s response.  It’s definitely worth it if you are either dating, engaged, or planning on marrying someone from a different theological background. Is the New Calvinism Worldly?

A pastor friend sent me this article by Dr. Peter Masters, who serves at the Metropolitan Tabernacle (yes, THE Metro Tab, the one that Mr. Spurgeon pastored).  It’s essentially a critique of today’s new Calvinism (and I would probably be classified as a new Calvinist) from what Dr. Masters might considered the ‘true Calvinist’ perspective.  [...]
