Membership We believe that church membership is entrance into the local congregation. Church membership assumes that the believer, one who has fully committed their life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, agrees in theology, vision, and mission of the church. In so doing, they have a stake in the future vision and ministry of the church. Therefore, membership is not something to be taken lightly, but with prayer and conviction. It is a covenanting before the Lord and His church, that this local body is the new covenant community one desires to become a member. 1 Corinthians 12:26 says: “26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” Membership means mutual accountability before God and His church.
We believe membership is the foundation for all of our Christian education, our discipleship, our training, etc. We believe that membership means belonging to the church community. It assumes commitment and accountability, commitment to the church and the church’s commitment to its members. Our hope is that this time will not only aid one’s knowledge of Wellspring, but will also cause one to learn and grow spiritually.
Our desire is to see men and women pursue God with a passion with their heart, soul, mind, and strength. It is the members of Wellspring who take part in this vision for the future. It is to that end that we see this time as essential to one’s integration into the church community.
Membership is not about comprehensive biblical or theological study. There are plenty of great books and resources that do a much better job at discussing each subject matter that we cover in greater detail. Instead, these are vignettes to whet one’s appetite for spirituality, theology, and spiritual leadership. Our hope is that this will challenge the church to know why it believes and inspires God’s people to press on toward the goal to win the ultimate prize (Phil. 3:12-14).
